Would you also like to learn how to work safely with a forklift or reach truck? Then be sure to read these tips!
1.Drive courteously and sensibly: it seems obvious yet accidents happen every day due to “cowboy behavior. Follow the rules at all times and honk when coming around a corner.
2. Use seat belts or restraints: this also seems logical but out of habit or wanting to be too fast, people sometimes forget to buckle up. Therefore, many forklifts do not start until the seat belt is engaged.
3. Prevent falling loads: instability is one of the biggest causes of falling loads. Of course, a lot of attention is paid to this in training. For example, you should never turn with your forklift when you have a load at height. Also, never drive your forklift with the load at height. Finally, you always drive down a slope backwards.
4. Provide appropriate training for your employees. In a training course, both theory and practice will give you the proper foundation to drive correctly and safely.
5. Understand the loading diagram: on each forklift you will find the loading diagram. This lists the load center distance, lifting capacity and lifting height. Based on this, you as a forklift or reach truck operator can deduce whether you are allowed to pick up the load or not.
