Firefighting training – small extinguishers

Every employer must establish a fire prevention service (RD of March 28, 2014 on fire prevention in workplaces).

In doing so, the company must also provide appropriate and sufficient resources. To apply and use these resources, the employer must also provide specific training for firefighters so that they can acquire the necessary knowledge.

In this context, Formaz offers the following quality and practical training courses, which can take place either at your premises or at one of our locations.

1. Handling small fire extinguishers (4h, including assembly and disassembly of mobile fire extinguisher unit):

This training is conducted by experienced firefighters and will provide your employees with the necessary knowledge to fight and control an incipient fire.

The following issues are addressed:

Theory

  • The concept of fire, the fire triangle, origin, development and propagation of fire
  • The types of fires (fire classes)
  • The types of fire extinguishers
  • Extinguishing principles: how to act in case of fire, how to fight a fire
  • Small extinguishing agents: types such as powder extinguisher, CO2, water, foam, fire blanket, fire reel
  • Small fire extinguishers: number to be provided, placement, maintenance and inspection
  • Signalization

Practice

We deliberately opted for this firefighting filling station because it has several advantages:

  • We do not harm the environment because we work with water / foam
  • So you also have no residual waste / powder afterwards on your property, which could otherwise give damage to your property / vehicle fleet or that of neighboring businesses (powder extinguishers, for example, damage metal)
  • No annoying cleanup work afterwards
  • More room for practice/exercise because of the ability to continuously fill extinguishers
  • Lower cost of training (no purchase of separate fire extinguishers)
  • The differences between the various extinguishers are discussed, but in their operation they do not differ (so there is also no reason to go with the different and more expensive extinguishers)
  • However, if you still wish to do so, you can still choose to purchase separate fire extinguishers

2. First response team (8h) or customized training:

First response team training goes a step further than small extinguishers. This will include or increase attention to the evacuation plan and possible emergency procedures.

These topics are covered:

Theory

  • The types of fires (fire classes)
  • The types of fire extinguishers
  • Extinguishing principles: how to act in case of fire, how to fight a fire
  • Small extinguishing agents: types such as powder extinguisher, CO2, water, foam, fire blanket, fire reel
  • Small fire extinguishers: number to be provided, placement, maintenance and inspection
  • Signalization
  • Prevention measures
  • Evacuation: the how and why
  • Evacuation: the rules in evacuation
  • Evacuation: evacuation exercise + optimize toward the future

Practice

For practice, we use a mobile firefighting unit with a firefighting filling station. A number of small fires are fought through this firefighting unit. The student will receive personal assistance in extinguishing a small fire (solid and liquid), a French fry pot fire, an electrical box and a manikin. We work with refillable fire extinguishers and fire blankets. In doing so, we also pay attention to:

  • Alert and alarm
  • How to safely open a door?
  • Evacuation drill in the building itself

Upon completion of this course(s), a certificate of participation will be issued for each participant.
